I chose to blog about vegetarianism not only because I
myself am a vegetarian but because I feel we are strongly misunderstood. Vegetarians are often put into stereotypes such as, tree-huggers, it's an
excuse to try and be thin, we only eat salads, and we'd be too skinny, we don’t
get enough protein, we’re all hippies etc. . . . These are all wrong
accusations. I personally do not even understand the tree-hugger part. Anyway,
our main focus is on animals, don't get me wrong, we care a lot about our
environment but our main concern is animals and their wellbeing. Being a vegetarian
has nothing to do with being thin, you'd be surprised on how many vegetarian
athletes and bodybuilders there are. Because we do not eat meat, we need to
make sure we get enough protein and vitamins in other ways such as tofu,
peanuts…there are plenty of substitutes and being a vegetarian is actually a
lot healthier. Being a vegetarian is much more than what we eat, but how we
live our lives. I hope that with the help of this blog, I can spread knowledge
of what it actually means to be a vegetarian such as health, the lifestyle, and
the acknowledgment of an animals’ life. If you know me personally, then you know that I never brag about being a vegetarian nor do I ever bring it up. My purpose is not to convert anyone at
all, but to get people to understand from a vegetarian's point of view.
