This article is for vegetarian bodybuilders and regular
bodybuilders who are looking for a healthier meal plan. Is it possible to be a
bodybuilder and a vegetarian? No? Pish posh, of course it is! It is very
possible to gain lean mass and/or decrease body-fat while being a vegetarian!
Amazing, right? So how on earth can you gain lean mass on a vegetarian meal
plan? SOY! Soy actually has more protein than beef by .08% and also contains
the 8 essential amino acids. So what do normal bodybuilders need in order to be
body builders? Well they need protein which can be found in soy, tofu, tempeh,
seitan, miso, textured soy protein, powdered form, etc. They need vitamins such
as B-12, iron, calcium, vitamin D, and zinc; these vitamins can be found in
B-12 (multivitamin form or soy product form), many soy beverages contain
calcium and vitamin D, but there occurs a tiny problem, B-12 is found in animal
products but there are few soy beverages that meet the 2.6 mcg recommendation. Choosing from variety of grains, legumes, seeds, and vegetables will provide an array of amino acids so a deficit from one food will be made up for by another. For a bodybuilder and those concerned with making great physical gain, knowledge is the key and planning is the action. When the benefits are so great from a vegetarian-based meal plan and the goal ultimately is fitness and health, then how can it be a bad thing?
